2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Review

The 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe has an affordable starting price point with high-end performance. Hyundai has always done an effective job of building the family-dream vehicle, and this model year’s rendition of the Santa Fe is no different.

To back this up, Kelley Blue Book gave the Best Family Car Award to the Santa Fe from 2018 to 2022. They also gave it the Best Buy Award in 2023. If that’s not enough, this year, it’s in the top two of the Best SUV class for the MotorTrend Ultimate Car Rankings.

Adding value and challenging rivals, these SUVs have increased the market standard for midsized 2-row SUVs. To learn more about the exclusive Calligraphy trim level, car specs, and just why this vehicle is so well liked by car journalists, continue reading below.

A Top-Tier Family Commuter

Recognized as a 2-row version of the Hyundai Palisade, the Santa Fe offers better maneuverability and greater storage than other midsized SUVs. This includes the 2023 Chevrolet Traverse. This Hyundai is perfect for a growing family or newlywed couple that is always on the road.

The 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe hosts its standard 191 horsepower at 6100 RPM. Front-Wheel Drive is the standard, but HTRAC All-Wheel Drive is an option for the adventure-minded soul.

Built strong for emergencies and for towing, this strong vehicle has a 2,000-pound towing weight capacity with trailer brakes and 1650 pounds without those brakes for the standard model.

Vehicles with the 2.5T turbo can handle even more towing weight up to 3,500 pounds.  For all models, without any modifications, ground clearance is 8.2 inches.

Offering good fuel economy, FWD models earn 28 miles per gallon on the highway. For even better mileage, Hybrids earn as much as 34 miles per gallon in combined driving.

To top it off, the Santa Fe qualifies for Hyundai’s famous warranty, known as America’s Best Warranty. And this is certainly the case!

The Santa Fe has a 10-Year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, a 5-Year or 60,000-mile warranty, and a 7-year anti-perforation warranty with unlimited miles. Finally, the Santa Fe has 24-Hour roadside assistance for 5 years, with no mileage restrictions.

Specs aside, the exterior of this vehicle is nothing short of luxurious. In this 2023 model year, Hyundai changed the Santa Fe’s front grille to fit a more modern look.

Interior Luxury

Clearly this SUV was made to accommodate everyone: squirming kids, babies and toddlers in carseats, teens gaming in the back row, or a second couple on a double date.

Shoppers won’t find this much passenger space on many midsize SUV rivals. The Santa Fe has 111 cu ft of passenger space, allowing it to have one of the biggest back rows in its class. This beats the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Honda Passport, two major rivals.

For passengers in the rear seats, there’s 41.7 inches of legroom. Hybrid models, abbreviated as HEV and PHEV, have a little less rear legroom at 40.8 or 39.5 inches. However, that still beats many 2-row SUVs on the market.

Ample cargo space is a given. The gas-powered model has approximately 36.4 cubic feet, ready to be filled with groceries or luggage.  With the second row folded flat, you will have 72.1 cubic feet of free and versatile space for everything from an exciting antique-furniture find to a week’s worth of camping gear.

All Santa Fe vehicles have a unique cockpit design. With a button-operated shifter and electric parking brake, this leads the interior in a more modern direction.

Additionally, this car has a two-level dash that adds to its modern look and its overall utility. An eight-inch screen interfaces effortlessly with your smartphone via Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.

Cabin Functionality and Seating

As for seating arrangements, an eight-way power-adjusting seat for the driver’s seat is available on most Santa Fe models. For trim levels Limited and higher, lumbar support, thigh extension, and memory seating are standard.

For those with young children, the Hyundai Santa Fe incentives include a stain-resistant cloth in the SE models that parents adore. Anti-tip cupholders and front-seat storage compartments make this car a favorite for commuting drivers.

The interior is tastefully done as good for date night as it is for families. In higher trim levels, a durable stitching design is a highlight on the seats and every soft touch, including the steering wheel.

A modern digital cluster gauge adds to the uncluttered, high-tech feel.. With this, drivers can easily see the car’s speed, fuel economy, tire pressure, and more. For higher models, a Head-Up display is available, which shows the vehicle’s speed on the front windshield.

A tastefully oriented center console has a wireless phone charging pad that is included in most trim levels. Drivers will appreciate a 360-parking view for the SEL Premium trim and above. A power liftgate with hands-free capability is a standard, a big win for busy parents.

A high-quality sound system is well-bolstered with ample adjustability. To top off interior amenities, the second row has AC vents to take the edge off hot Arizona summers.  There are reclining chairs for individual comfort. Even better, a quiet mode blocks noise in the second row where kids may be sleeping.

Highly Ranked Safety Features

The list of driver assistance features is even better for the 2023 Santa Fe than the 2022. All of Hyundai’s safety features are offered in each trim of the Santa Fe, putting this car’s biggest priority on safety.

Hyundai itself has earned top marks from both public and private crash testing agencies. This includes the coveted 5-star NHTSA Rating and IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus designation.

Drivers can feel reassured that automatic braking really will assist them in an emergency or near collision. This should help parents feel more at ease behind the wheel.  In addition, a driver-selectable downhill brake can assist with mountain driving.

Edmunds, the automotive critic website, congratulated the Santa Fe’s “smooth-operating” driver’s assistance.  This expert autobrake watches for cyclists and junction dangers as well as pedestrians and forward collision dangers. It responds only if there isn’t enough time for the driver to do so.

Other safety features include lane keeping assist and blind spot monitoring for preventing side crash scenarios. A remote smart parking assist really takes the stress out of tight maneuvers.

Gas-Powered Models Explained

The 2023 Santa Fe has five different gas-powered trims, set to fit the lifestyle of any driver. These trims include the SE, SEL, XRT, Limited, and the famous Santa Fe Calligraphy.

Hyundai Santa Fe SE, SEL, and XRT models have a 4-cylinder standard engine. With adaptive cruise control, it increases and reduces speeds automatically. This efficient powertrain delivers 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque.

When upgrading to the Hyundai Santa Fe Limited or Calligraphy, the driver commands a turbocharged engine. Output is 281 horses and 311 lb-ft of torque. These power upgrades are a good example of how Hyundai adds value to every level of the trim ladder.

SE and SEL Trim Levels

The SE base model is very popular with first-time Hyundai buyers for its value. The base model includes all of Hyundai’s safety features and ventilated seats, a big win for Phoenix AZ drivers.

A step up for the 2023 Santa Fe SEL model with dual automatic climate controls and manual rear sunshades. This definitely helps ensure a more enjoyable ride when the summer heat is intense.

Standard on all Santa Fe trims, the Hyundai Digital Key allows drivers to use a smartphone to control the vehicle instead of the physical fob key. Additionally, the interior is dressed in HTex leatherette, which is rare for lower trim levels.

XRT and Limited

XRT models have more interior and exterior color and leather choices, as well as noise-blocking windows. The cockpit is furnished with widescreen displays, making the Santa Fe XRT one of the top tech trim options.

You could think of this edition as an SEL model with a convenience package. This is meant to be in competition with SUVs like the Subaru Outback Wilderness. With a bold design, quick acceleration, and easy-to-access side steps, this trim is best for the adventure-minded driver.

For a more luxurious model, Santa Fe Limiteds have premium door panels. Power-ventilated seats kick out the heat, while a panoramic sunroof can invite light and air inside. The driver’s chair gains a memory system and leg cushion extension.

The Harman Kardon audio system is standard on all top trim levels. This premium audio sounds pristine thanks to its Clari-Fi™ music restoration technology. With this audio system’s 12 speakers, passengers are enveloped with a QuantumLogic Surround® system.

Calligraphy

All Hyundai amenities and luxury packages are neatly put together in one vehicle – the Santa Fe Calligraphy.  This trim level is truly where the Santa Fe shines brightest. This vehicle proudly wears premium quilted Nappa leather, quilted door panels, and an Eco-Suede headliner.

Interiors have subtle nighttime lighting, adding to the evening ambiance of the cabin and providing a gentle glow to assist passengers. The exterior has more features, including a chrome skid plate.

You may speak with our staff by the phone or using the online chat below to gain more personalized information.

Innovative Storage and Interior Seating

One fan favorite feature that only Chrysler offers is the Stow ‘n Go seating. This allows second-row seats to be completely stowed within the cabin floor, or even easily removed for cargo storage. This gives ultimate accessibility for busy families, cross-country roadtrips or college student move-in days. . In fact, this vehicle has up to 140.5 cubic feet of cargo capacity.

In a single vehicle, the Chrysler Pacifica offers 243 different seating configurations for the gas powered model and 81 different configurations for the hybrid powertrain model. This goes to show that the Pacifica will have your back in times of travel, errands and storage.

Easy Tilt Seating allows the rear seat passenger to easily maneuver through the cabin with the simple lift of a lever. Using this mechanism allows the second row seats to easily tilt forward, even with a rear facing child’s seat set in place. This makes life easier for the family driver when dropping the carpool off at school or assisting your passengers out of the vehicle.

The 2023 Pacifica takes advantage of any available cargo capacity within the floors of the vehicle cabin. There are floor compartments with push buttons, giving you even more storage for equipment, toys and other necessary supplies for your daily travels.

Family Oriented Technology

The FamCAM is a new addition to the Chrysler Pacifica lineup. This feature allows parents to watch over their children in rear-facing seats. These cameras have an automatic day and night mode with a split view screen option. This way you can always keep a watchful eye on your little ones – especially infants.

In 2022, the Chrysler Pacifica gained an Amazon Fire TV to entertain little ones during family drives and give passengers access to their favorite streaming content and Alexa voice control. In 2023, Chrysler built off this momentum and incorporated Uconnect 5 and Uconnect Theater system, giving parents the control over what content is shown.

Additionally, a convenient and time-saving power liftgate and power sliding door can be activated with just the kick of your foot. Whether it is for caregiving, grocery shopping, road trips or carpooling, the 2023 Chrysler Pacifica is made to adapt to your needs.

Size, Trim Levels and Interior Colors

The 2023 Chrysler Pacifica is split into four convenient trim models, fit for any customer need. The Touring comes in front-wheel drive while the other three trims are offered with all-wheel drivetrains.

Every Pacifica is quite roomy with 40 inches of front and rear headroom as well as 40 inches of front and second-row legroom. Front shoulder room measures 64 inches.

Limited trims have luxury Nappa leather seats, a sunroof option, a super console and a hands free power liftgate. The available interior colors for the 2023 model include Black and Caramel, All Black, and Black and Alloy. The Black and Caramel is exclusive to the Pinnacle interior model and hosts Caramel seats. The All Black interior comes in cloth, leather or Nappa leather choice. The Black and Alloy combination is offered in your choice of regular leather or Nappa leather.

Exterior Colors, Specifications and Features

Not only does the 2023 Chrysler Pacifica offer fantastic amenities, it also has an athletic appearance with a redesigned grille and front fascia. This deep, bold and aerodynamic design gives you the confidence to take on whatever the day has in store for you.

The higher trim models offer a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, giving you greater control of how much sunshine or nature you would like to see inside your vehicle. The Chrysler Pacifica is now available with innovative LED lighting, fog lamps and tail lamps for greater visibility on foggy drives.

Performance, Capability and Safety

The Chrysler Pacifica has a 3.6 liter engine with a V-6 cylinder configuration.  The Pacifica has a clever 9-speed automatic transmission. Standard front-wheel drive fuel efficiency is rated at 28 miles per gallon on the highway.  Engine output is more than 280 horsepower.

Additionally, the Chrysler Pacifica has one of the most advanced available all-wheel drive systems in its class. While some think of AWD for winter driving, this electronic system is useful in many more circumstances.

The Chrysler Pacifica has the most standard safety features in the minivan industry, including 116 safety or security-related features. This includes ParkSense parallel and perpendicular park assist and an automatic emergency brake with pedestrian and forward collision warning as standards.

Hybrid Advantages

Chrysler’s Pacifica Hybrid model is the first plug-in hybrid minivan. Fuel efficiency is 82 miles per gallon equivalent, according to the federal Fuel Economy website. The strictly electric range is 32 miles.  The hybrid model offers a seamless driving experience, where the driver does not need to manually select between the electric and hybrid modes.

This car hosts a family of seven and keeps the family driver happy with 260 horsepower and a four-wheel drivetrain.  Furthermore, the Pacifica hybrid has the many safety features and intuitive family-friendly technology already discussed.

Its lengthy list of features is not the only thing to rave about. In fact, in 2022, the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid was a finalist for the Best Minivan for the Money at US News and World Report.

Compare and Contrast

While the variety of minivans may be dwindling from the market, the need for one is not. Big families need the spacious and versatility that only a minivan can offer. The 2023 Chrysler Pacifica is only one of four minivans available this year, so it is easy to pinpoint how its luxury, technology, increased cargo capacity, easy driveability and solid performance blows other minivan options out of the water.

The Chrysler Pacifica easily pulls ahead of the Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey and Kia Carnival. But that’s not all, the Pacifica is outperforming many SUVs such as the Chevrolet Traverse and Honda Pilot in terms of parking assistance, full-size cargo capacity and cabin amenities.

The 2023 Chrysler Pacifica is equipped with a vacuum cleaner for certain trim levels. Known as the Stow ‘n Vac, this vacuum system is perfect to help clean up the mess of little ones or traveling. Additionally, the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey do not offer a motion-operated power-sliding door.

With Chrysler’s list of safety and security features, versatile trim levels, diverse entertainment system, borderline luxury amenities and great fuel economy, we are confident the Chrysler Pacifica is the perfect family friendly car.

2023 Hyundai NEXO Review: A Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle

The 2023 Hyundai Nexo answers to many names: an electric vehicle, a hydrogen vehicle or a fuel cell vehicle.  The thing is, it’s all three and, in many ways, it’s one of a kind.

In fact, the Nexo was the first SUV for sale with this kind of technology in the USA. The carbon footprint for hydrogen is lower than for electricity.  Plus this vehicle has an impressive zero-emission standard.

In this Hyundai Nexo review, continue reading to learn more about how this Hyundai hydrogen vehicle works — plus, ownership costs, trim levels, performance, and more.

A Powerful Hydrogen SUV

The Hyundai Nexo utilizes a new hydrogen technology. It is produced through an industrial process and then compressed and stored in its fuel tank. Hydrogen cars are known as Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles or FCEVs. These don’t need electricity because hydrogen provides the spark that generates power for the electric motors.

With this kind of power, the 2023 Nexo can quickly power your vehicle in less than 5 minutes. This kind of efficiency is not seen in traditional electric vehicles.

To put this into perspective, an average electric SUV has a driving range between 220 and 320 miles. In comparison, the 2023 Hyundai Nexo driving range is 380 miles with the Blue trim and 354 miles with the Limited trim.

Hydrogen vehicle is not a car that you plug in. This is a vehicle that you refuel with hydrogen gas at a hydrogen gas pump.

This vehicle is only sold in California because of the number of hydrogen charging stations available. Like the 2022 Hyundai Nexo, the 2023 Nexo is not currently sold in Arizona due to the limited number of these hydrogen stations.

If you live in Arizona, the 2023 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Edition is a good way to stay green at an affordable price. This plug-in Hybrid offers 80 MPGe, which is much more fuel efficient than a typical SUV’s 30 mpg.  You can get a closer look at all things Hyundai, including the 2023 Hyundai Tucson Hybrids at our dealership. Schedule a test drive.

Ownership Costs

Due to the 2023 Hyundai Nexo’s eco-friendly nature, buyers may be entitled to a $7,500 federal tax credit. Additionally, the 2023 Nexo models come with three years of free hydrogen refills. That’s like another rebate on your purchase.

The plug-in Tucson Hybrid goes 33 miles on its electric charge. Then its hybrid engine takes over, offering about 80 MPGe. To find competitive financing and interest rates, check out our Hyundai dealership where our specialists can give you more information on this.

Hyundai rewards shoppers with a 3-year subscription to the brand’s remote services.  This allows you to utilize an app as a remote starter. It includes automatic collision notification and a roadside assistance button.

A Futuristic Look

The Nexo doesn’t look like other vehicles on the road, and that’s a good thing. Known as Hyundai’s “technology flagship”, this is still a traditional SUV crossover in capability, comfortability, and utility.

Its exterior is sleek and futuristic. Designers tucked the front and rear windshield wipers, just like the Hyundai Tucson Hybri. The flush-fitting door handles and fuel door give this vehicle a luxurious feeling.

This alternative fuel vehicle comes in four different colors: Deep Sea, Shimmering Silver, Copper Metallic, and White Pearl. The interior is offered in an exclusive stone gray. Additionally, all interiors have bio-based, sustainable leatherette seating.

Two Trim Packages

There are two trim level options: the Nexo Blue and Nexo Limited. As mentioned before, standard features for each trim include a lush cabin with sustainable Vegan leather on the seats.

Nexo drivers have a large 10.25-inch driver infotainment center behind the steering wheel and 8-way power front seats. The dashboard has an impressive 12.3-inch touchscreen that works seamlessly with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This smart luxurious and one-of-a-kind ride has a wireless charger and dual USB ports to fit with the times.

Blue trims have plenty of luxury standards, such as LED lights, a power driver seat with lumbar support, rear seat pockets, an auto defogger, and LATCH anchors. Due to these amenities, and more, many don’t feel the need to elevate to another trim level.

Limiteds are built with luxury in mind. This trim has a blind-spot View Monitor, rain-sensing front wipers, roof rails, and a beautiful extra-wide sunroof. The Nexo Limited has an electric range of 354 miles. That is excellent for a crossover SUV.

Finally, the Limited offers a hands-free smart liftgate and a heated steering wheel. Exclusive remote smart parking assist is also available on this model.

Nexo Size and Capability

When it comes to size, the 2023 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid is very similar to the 2023 Nexo. The 2023 Hyundai Nexo provides plenty of space for passengers, with comfortable leather seats and a futuristic dashboard design.

The rear seats offer a great 38.6 inches of legroom and 29.6 cubic feet of cargo space. With the seats folded down, the Nexo cargo area expands to 56.5 cubic feet.

With over 300 miles of range on a full tank, this SUV will get around town or out on the open road without any problems.

Safety Assistance

Hyundai is known for its safety and excellent driver assistance features. The blind spot view monitor is an actual camera system with live footage. The remote smart parking feature puts your vehicle into its parking space while the driver watches from the curb.

Every year, the forward collision system is more refined. 2023 Nexo systems can watch for stopping cars, pedestrians, cyclists, and other possible obstacles with its emergency auto brake, working well with the adaptive cruise control system.

The Hybrid has a trunk capacity of 17.8 cubic feet, while the Hatchback has a trunk capacity of 20.8 cubic feet.

Corolla Exterior Design

Exterior design for the Toyota Corolla Hybrid and Hatchback is certainly sleek, compact, and modern. It has a sporty and aerodynamic body style, with a sloping roofline and smooth curves. The front of the car is characterized by a bold grille and angular headlights, while the rear features angular taillights and a spoiler for improved aerodynamics.

Corolla’s 2023 Hatchback has a similar design to the Hybrid, but with a hatchback-style trunk space and a more aggressively sporty exterior. Both the Corolla Hybrid and Hatchback are available in a range of exterior colors, including classic options like silver, black, and white. For those interested in more vibrant shades, the Corollas are also offered in bright red, blue, and green.

Compact and Plush Interior

In terms of interior design, Corollas are compact, practical, and stylish all in one. These cars are designed to be both functional and comfortable, perfect for a commuter driver or a small family. The Corolla features high-quality materials and finishes, as well as a range of advanced dashboard technology and convenience features to fit with the times.

The front of the car has supportive seats with adjustable lumbar support for certain trim levels. Of course, the rear seats have ample legroom for passengers. The Toyota Corolla Hybrid has more cabin room by .5 feet compared to the Hatchback model. For specifics, the Corolla Hybrid has 96.5 cubic feet of room, while the Corolla Hatchback has 96 cubic feet.

The dashboard is easy to use, with a center console that houses a display screen for the 8-inch infotainment system, as well as physical buttons for the audio and climate system. These are easy to use, which is perfect for commuting drivers in the Pheonix AZ area. Each model of the Corolla also has Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port, and a satellite radio as the standard.

In terms of storage, the Corolla Hybrid and Hatchback have a great amount of space for everyday items. The trunk can easily hold a few small suitcases or bags of groceries. The Hatchback model has a slightly larger trunk than the Hybrid due to its upright trunk design. Additionally, the rear seats of the Hatchback model can be folded down to provide additional storage space for those long road trips.

Safety Features

Safety is a top priority for the 2023 Corolla Hatchback and Hybrid. Both models come standard with a suite of advanced driver assist systems that help to prevent accidents and keep passengers safe. These systems include a pre-collision feature with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, and adaptive cruise control.

In addition to these advanced assist systems, the 2023 Corolla Hatchback and Hybrid also come with several other safety features, such as traction control, stability control, and hill start assist. Both models also have a strong and durable body structure that helps to absorb and distribute crash energy, and they are equipped with front and rear crumple zones that help to protect occupants in the event of a collision.

Trim Levels

The 2023 Corolla Hatchback and Hybrid available in different trim levels, each with its own unique features and amenities. The Hybrid trims are LE, SE, and XLE. The Hatchback has two different trim choices including the SE and XSE.

The base trim level for the Hybrid is the LE, which includes similar features as well as an ECO driving mode and an ECO driving display. The base trim level for the Hatchback is the SE, which comes with an 8-inch touchscreen display, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, and a six-speaker audio system.

Higher trim levels for the Hybrid include the XLE and the Nightshade Edition, which offer similar upgrades as well as a Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and a panoramic moon roof. For the Hatchback, the highest trim level is the XSE, which offers additional features such as the premium JBL audio system and a wireless charging pad.

Cost to Own

In general, the Toyota Corolla Hybrid prices have higher upfront costs than its traditional gasoline-powered counterpart because of how expensive it is to make hybrid technology. However, hybrid Corollas cost less over time due to their excellent efficiency, which is cheaper to charge than filling up your gas vehicle with fuel.

Other factors that affect the cost of owning a Corolla Hybrid include the price of insurance, taxes, and registration fees. It is important to do thorough research and consider all these costs if you’re looking to stay in-budget.

In terms of repair, every new Toyota vehicle comes with warranty. For the Basic Coverage, this lasts for 36 months or up to 36,000 miles. Powertrain Coverage lasts for 60 months of 60,000 miles, Rust-through Coverage lasts for 60 months with unlimited miles, and Emissions Coverage for the first 10 years since purchase, or 150,000 miles of use. This does not cover normal wear and tear, which will come out of pocket.

For those interested in going electric – now is the time to buy! All electric and hybrid vehicles purchased after 2010 may be eligible for a tax credit up to $7,500, depending on the battery capability, state of purchase, and income.

2023 Ford F150 Lightning Review: Popular Pickups Go Electric

The F-150 is Ford’s most popular pickup and one of the most purchased trucks in the nation. As the new car market goes electric, Ford adapts and brings the 2023 F-150 Lightning. The Lightning is a forward-thinking model that shows the possibilities of an electric truck in a familiar package.

Known as “radically different, yet instantly familiar,” the F-150 Lightning has been awarded Truck of the Year by Motor Trend and other automotive journalists. To learn more about this vehicle’s power, design choices, and cost to own an EV pickup truck, continue reading below.

Standard vs Extended Range

Ford electric truck shoppers have the choice between two battery packs: Standard Range and Extended Range. Both packages create more power than most of the gasoline light-duty trucks on the market.

The Standard Range has 426 horsepower with 775 lb-ft of torque. The Extended Range has 563 horsepower with the same amount of torque. That’s more horsepower for both batteries this model year! Additionally, each Ford Lightning comes equipped with four-wheel drive.

For 2023, the Standard Range Lightning has an electric range of 240 miles, which is 10 more miles than the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning. For the Extended Range, this is bumped up by nearly 80 miles for an efficient 320 miles of range.

In terms of MPGe, the Extended Range has a more potent battery and better fuel efficiency. It hosts 78 mpg-e in the city and 63 mpg-e on the highway. The Standard Range takes second place, but it is still quite smart with 76 mpg-e in the city and 61 mpg-e while cruising down the highway.

To put things into perspective, the 2023 gas-powered F-150 is considered one of the best on the market, and it has a driving range of 280 miles. Its fuel economy is 20 mpg on city streets and 26 mpg on highways.

Vehicle Specs and MPGe

Ford does not sacrifice the exciting concept of an electric vehicle for the truck’s power. In fact, the Lightning has the same standards as the rest of the F-150 lineup, plus some. To do this, drivers have the choice between two electric batteries: the Standard Range and the Extended Range.

The Standard Range battery has 426 horsepower with 775 lb-ft of torque, while the Extended Range has an unexpected 563 horsepower with the same 775lb-ft of torque. Each model comes equipped with four wheel drive. Because of this power, the Lightning has a 10,000 pound towing capacity, helping drivers work smarter and harder according to one review.

In 2023, the Ford F-150 Lightning Standard Range has a driving range of 240 miles, which is 10 more miles than the 2022 model. For the Extended Range, this is bumped up nearly 80 miles for an efficient driving range of 320 miles.

In terms of MPGe, the most efficient battery option is the Extended Range, which has 78 MPGe in the city and 63 MPGe on the highway. The Standard Range takes second place, with 76 MPGe in the city and 61 MPGe while cruising down the highway.

This is an unexpected mileage, especially for pickup trucks who are notorious for a poor driving range. To put things into perspective, the 2023 gas powered F-150 has a driving range of 280 miles and 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.

Finally, the Standard Range Lightning has a payload capacity of 2,235 pounds while the Extended Range has a smaller payload capacity of 1,952 pounds. This shows that while the Extended Range battery has improved driving range, the Standard Range has its own benefits too.

Utility and Safety Features

One of the few upgrades for the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning from the previous model year is the Pro Trailer Hitch Assist. This comes as standard when the F-150 Lightning is purchased with a Tow Technology Package, but as also available on higher trims with no package needed. This feature automatically controls the steering, throttle, and braking of your vehicle when hitching trailers.

A great perk of an electric pickup is the ability for a front storage space, affectionately known as a “Frunk.” The 2023 Ford Lightning has a Mega Power Frunk which can be utilized for 14.1 cubic feet of storage or even as a charging station. It has four Pro Power Onboard 120V outlets that may come in handy for drivers.

Other utility features include the Pro Power Onboard, which offers 11 outlets and 9.6 kW of auxiliary power. There is also an optional package for an eight amp Ford Charge Station Pro, which has the power to charge a standard home for up to 3 days with a fully charged battery.

While browsing through the Lightning’s features, it’s clear that safety went into the making of this EV pickup. Standard features include, but are not limited to, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, and a blind spot with cross-traffic alert. Drivers will be pleased to find a crisp rear view camera, as well as a lane-keeping system for long road trips, and LED headlights.

Tech Driven Interior

For all 2023 F-150 Lightning vehicles, a push button start and heated and ventilated front seats are standard. This proves beneficial during the blistering summer months in the Phoenix AZ area.

There are plenty similarities between the F-150 Lightning and its gas-powered counterpart. The Lightning has a large 15.5 inch screen with specialized Lightning animations. It works well with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but what drivers have noted is how the dashboard is vertical.

To control the temperature, the Lightning’s dashboard has digital buttons. These buttons work well due to the dashboard’s quick computer processor and smooth graphics. Another favorite feature is that the front seats can recline to 180 degrees, letting you rest while the truck charges. However, this can only be done with the rear seats lifted.

Unprecedented Exterior Design

Compared to the traditional F-150, the Lightning brings slender exterior changes. It hosts a closed off grille and a rounded face, in result, creating a more aerodynamic vehicle.

The main part of the Lightning’s exterior is the large and continuous LED headlight that wraps around the face of the trucl. While it is not as boxy as the gas-powered F-150, those who follow the electric vehicle market appreciate the slenderized design.

The Lightning has the choice between 7 exterior colors, including: Agate Black Metallic, Antimatter Blue Metallic, Avalanche Gray, Azure Gray Metallic Tri-Coat, Carbonize Metallic Gray, Iconic Silver Metallic, Oxford White, Rapid Red Metallic, and Stone Gray Metallic.

Cost to Own an Electric Truck

Despite recent increase in vehicle pricing, the Ford F-150 Lightning is still the cheapest electric truck on the market today. It brings power and a modernized design with a more affordable price tag.

There are also tax incentives for going electric. Those who purchase a new electric vehicle may qualify for up to $7,500 in federal tax credit. To qualify for the full $7,500 credit, you would need to own $10,000 in federal income tax. For more information, give us a call or set an appointment today.

Additionally, according to 2022 prices, it is less expensive to charge your electric vehicle than it is to fuel a gas or diesel powered pickup truck. The car market is going electric, and now could be the time to buy.

F-150 Lightning Trim Levels Explained

This vehicle has four trim levels to choose from: Pro, XLT, Lariat, and Platinum. Only the XLT, Lariat, and Platinum trims have the option between the Standard Range and Extended Range batteries. The Pro comes with the Standard Range battery only.

The Lightning Pro has a plethora of features, convincing some drivers that are using this EV pickup as a daily commuter not go upgrade trim levels. These features include 426 horsepower, vinyl upholstery, manual front seats, all-terrain tires, and LED headlamps.

Next, the 2023 Lightning XLT includes all the features of the Pro, plus LED mirror mounted spotlights, body color bumpers, an eight-way power driver seat, and the popular 360-degree camera. This vehicle also offers the SecuriCode keyless entry keypad, which is well liked among driers.

Going up the trim ladder is the Lightning Lariat. This vehicle has beautiful leather trimmed front seats, the Pro Power Onboard generator, and a wireless charging pad. All four seats can be heated and ventilated and this trim level offers other aesthetic lighting, such as auto dimming lights and LED security approach lamps.

Ford’s Lightning Platinum is the highest trim available and is where EV efficiency and luxury meet. This is recognized as the trim that does it all and is quite pricey. AZ driers will love the Rain lamp wiper-activated headlamps and rain sensing wipers when monsoon season rolls around. This EV pickup truly stands out with its handsome “end cut oak” interior accents.

The Lightning vs the Competition

Sources such as U.S. News prefer the interior of the all-electric pickup truck Rivian, but love the exterior, power, and features of the 2023 F-150 Lightning. Additionally, the contemporary exterior of the Rivian is a turn-off for those just entering the EV market. The Lightning is much more similar to that of a traditional pickup truck, but has the benefits of increased storage and utility power of an electric vehicle.

Additionally, the technology of the Lightning performed better than the Rivian. In general, the F-150 Lightning worked better and had the technology perform as intended. The Lightning’s front trunk worked better and had more utility incentives, according to Forbes

Comparison: Lexus RZ & Volvo XC40 Recharge

The 2023 Lexus RZ450e and 2023 Volvo XC40 Recharge are two highly rated and reliable luxury electric vehicles. When making the switch from a gasoline car to an electric vehicle, you need to be sure you are choosing a machine with reliability, great electric range, and fast charging.

5 Ways the 2023 Lexus RZ Challenges the 2023 Volvo XC40 Recharge

In 2023, the Lexus RZ and Volvo XC40 Recharge have all of these amenities, but which one is better? This spacious Lexus EV is the next-generation sporty choice while the Volvo Recharge is the simple option.

To understand the differences between the 2023 XC40 Recharge and RZ 450e, check out this luxury electric vehicle comparison.  You’ll learn about everything from drivability to driving range.

1. Authentic EV Luxury

The Lexus RZ 450e is a sporty midsize crossover. These high-tech luxury electric cars come in two trim levels, Luxury and Premium, as well as 8 exterior color choices. Built with the Toyota reliability Americans know and love, this Lexus EV does not sacrifice safety for beauty.  Looking at the outside, the RZ can have a two-tone exterior, ducktail spoiler, and angular headlamps.

The XC40 Recharge, on the other hand, is not as striking but is still handsome enough. The exterior has a pretty same-color grill plate and this year’s model includes a slight exterior revamp. Most luxury EVs have an aggressive exterior design, but not the 2023 Recharge. It’s a simple design with the same price tag as the Lexus RZ450e.

However, the RZ 450e looks ritzy and has next-generation technology not found in most vehicles. This includes a panoramic sunroof that can be electronically frosted over, with UV protection, with the push of a button.

The Volvo Recharge lacks this kind of technology. The sunroof has a heavy tint with poor sunlight protection and no shade to cover the driver – a poor choice for those daily driving during Phoenix AZ’s blistering summers.

Each vehicle has a 100% suede and vegan leather interior. That’s right, no more genuine leather options for these cars. Both vehicles offer a backlit interior and extra storage space thanks to an electric vehicle’s lack of a combustion engine.

2. Yoke Steering and Driveability

Design is not the only reason the RZ 450e catches the eye of car enthusiasts around the world. For the first time, Lexus has introduced a yoke-style steering wheel option, a feature similar to one first seen on the Tesla’s Model Y.

A new steering wheel can be intimidating for new EV owners, and Tesla’s wheel has come into criticism. However; automotive journalists put these concerns to rest when it comes to the Lexus version. Critics are impressed with Lexus yoke steering’s performance and ease of learning. The steering console itself is redesigned with simple and easy-to-press buttons.

In comparison, Volvo’s Recharge does not have this as an option. But that is not the only disadvantage when it comes to these Volvo cars.

Comparing size and spaciousness of each electric SUV, the Lexus RZ 450e has 1.2 inches more ground clearance than the Recharge. The RZ is also longer and wider, giving more storage and breathing room for passengers and the driver.

This vehicle also offers exclusive Lexus Direct4. Electronically controlled All-Wheel Drive uses a dual motor set-up where rear electric motors provide torque to the rear axle.

Kelley Blue Book noted the Lexus RZ’s great handling and sophisticated shock absorbers. However, reviews for the Volvo Recharge report that the EV’s suspension isn’t as refined and may give passengers a bumpy ride.  Since this is most noticeable in the rear seats, it is probably most important to families with children.

Another interesting observation, it is hard to get a smooth stop in the Volvo EV when one-pedal driving isn’t needed. This real world application is a real disconnect for today’s drivers who are not accustomed to regenerative braking.

Ironically, even with one-pedal driving activated, the Volvo does not perform as consistently as the Lexus RZ 450e.  Of course, Lexus has been refining regenerative braking since the Prius was introduced more than 20 years ago.

3. Electric Driving Range and Fuel Efficiency

A car’s driving range is the most important feature when looking into an EV. The Volvo and Lexus EVs have comparable electric ranges, but the RZ 450e is more efficient with a range of 225 miles. The Recharge offers 221 miles by EPA estimates.

Additionally, fuel economy is another area where the Lexus RZ 450e shines. It has nearly 100 miles combined MPGe, while the Recharge has only 85 MPGe. In the end, the Lexus has more overall endurance on the road than the Recharge.

4. Better Infotainment System

One of the biggest gripes of the Volvo Recharge is its infotainment system. The touchscreen dashboard is only 9 inches long and has no physical buttons for climate control. Heated front seats and steering are standard, but the buttons on the steering wheel console are reported to be hard to use.

The Lexus EV does have physical buttons for climate control and a 14-inch dashboard touchscreen. That is a 5-inch difference compared to the Recharge! This is the kind of infotainment system expected for this kind of luxury vehicle.

Another complaint by automotive journalists is that while the Volvo Recharge offers creative storage boxes, it misses one major component – there is no sunglasses compartment. The RZ does have a place to store your sunglasses. It also has 5 USB ports while the Recharge only has 4. Certainly Lexus offers plenty of creative storage solutions that electric vehicles are known for.

Each car has a Google-operated system and Google Map capabilities. Both of these automobiles offer Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and luxury-level speakers for a great music experience.

5. Same Price, Better Amenities

As a true luxury EV, the Lexus RZ has more amenities for its price than the Volvo Recharge. The Lexus RZ price includes the SmartAccess card key and Lexus Digital Key which gives the driver the authority to control their vehicle from their smartphone.

The Lexus also has a longer Powertrain Warranty compared to the Volvo, but that’s not all. Although each vehicle has the same EV price range ($54,000 to $60,000), the Lexus clearly offers more. Additionally, the RZ can hit speeds of 120 mph while the Recharge hits only 113 mph. Drivers looking for safety, efficiency, speed, and fuel economy will love the new Lexus RZ 450e.

Summary

With a zero-emission performance, great driving economy, and Lexus-standard amenities, the RZ 450e is a great choice for buyers looking into the luxury EV market. For green luxury SUVs similar to the RZ, check out the Lexus RX 500h or Lexus NX.

Toyota: 2023 Corolla Cross Hybrid Review

The 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid is the brand’s latest attempt to achieve the brand’s carbon neutral goal. This vehicle is sporty, feature-focused, and stylish, making it the logical choice for new and experienced commuting drivers alike.

Considering a typical electric vehicle’s high price point, Toyota will make budget buyers smile with this hybrid MSRP under $30,000.  Packed with fun technologies and eye-catching details, it represents the best of the best Corolla Cross lineup. Energetic and spry, this small SUV is fun to drive with an instant torque that helps you race to your destination.

To learn about the new Corolla Cross Hybrid, its remarkable performance, tech features and trim level amenities, keep scrolling!

Performance & Handling

Good performance is a must for commuting drivers, and Toyota does not disappoint. Generating a combined 196 horsepower, it gets 139 lb-ft of torque from its electric motors and 152 lb-ft from its gas powertrain.

This affordable hybrid is all-wheel drive, but primarily uses front-wheel drive with the help of an electric motor for the back wheels when needed.  So you get the ease of FWD while getting the all-weather help of AWD.

Even though the goal of this vehicle is to be sporty, it achieves a new level of handling comfort.  A sport-tuned suspension adds to the zippy handling without taking away from the comfortable ride. This aspect is clearly aimed at commuters in major metro areas like our own Phoenix, AZ.  A Kelley Blue Book critic called this vehicle “confidently nimble around town and in parking lots.”

Sport mode is the ticket for zipping to your destination on the highway, normal is great for an all-around driving experience, and eco mode gives you the best fuel economy possible.

Fuel Efficiency & Ownership Costs

If your aim is to save money, the Corolla Cross Hybrid is definitely a good choice. Drivers can expect a combined fuel economy of 42 miles per gallon. That breaks down into 45 mpg city and 38 mpg highway.

Furthermore, as a Toyota hybrid, the Corolla Cross comes with money management in mind. For example, the EV drive mode is automatically activated when driving under 25 miles per hour, saving you money when driving around town. However this vehicle is not a plug-in hybrid, eliminating the need for a charging station.

Plus, the Corolla Cross Hybrid is covered by up to 10 years or 150,000 miles for the hybrid battery and 8 years or 100,000 miles for certain hybrid components.

Interior

The interior is conservative and comfortable. This hybrid SUV seats five people and has ample headroom in the backseat, even for tall passengers. The trunk storage is impressive for an SUV this size. Measuring 21.5 cubic feet, it is larger in width in comparison to the Subaru Outback. Seats down, the cargo hold grows to 70 cubic feet.

The higher grade levels in this vehicle have luxury stitching patterns, Softex seats, and red accents to reflect a sporty and modern design. A beautiful moonroof package is available for higher trim levels as well.

Dash Technology

The cockpit is a comfortable perch for a single family or commuter driver, with two cupholders, a center console storage, and easy to use buttons on the steering wheel for cluster gauge control. Automotive journalists note the vehicle’s physical buttons for climate control in the infotainment system.

An 8-inch touch screen is standard for all trim levels. Toyota’s dashboard system works effortlessly with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, and has both wireless and wired options.

Trim Levels

Toyota has the driver’s needs in mind. The Corolla Cross Hybrid has three grades to choose from, and inexpensive convenience packages let you add more of what you want.

Corolla Cross Hybrid S comes equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, and smart key access. If you want a bit more, the SE grade comes with privacy glass, roof rails, and paddle shifters. Many drivers will love the SE trim level because it has customizable convenience packages without the price of the highest grade.

XSE models have the best-equipped exterior and sportiest interior. For looks and more capability, this sporty SUV comes with premium LED headlamps, taillamps, fog lamps, and larger alloy wheels.  Corolla Cross Hybrid XSE cabins come with Toyota Softex trim seats, heated front seats, and a power driver’s seat with power-adjust lumbar support.

Exterior

Compared to the Corolla Cross gasoline model, the Cross Hybrid model eliminated black trim above the grill, giving the car a more distinct style. Subtle body lines give the car a modern and curvy look that sets it further apart from rivals such as the Jeep Compass or Subaru Outback.

Additionally, new two-tone colors are available for this affordable SUV.  An inexpensive option for the SE and XSE trim levels, two-tone paint colors include silver and black, red and black, yellow and black, and blue and black.

Safety & Drivers Assistance

Toyota is known for brand reliability and high safety ratings. The Toyota Corolla Cross earned a 2022 IIHS Top Safety Pick. Lane departure warnings, lane keeping, an emergency autobrake, and a related forward collision warning are just some of the driver aids that are standard.

The IIHS gave superior ratings to the forward collision autobrake and pedestrian autobrake. The SUV demonstrated it could avoid a collision at the 12-mile and 25-mile benchmarks.

According to the IIHS, the best headlights are the inexpensive, available curve-adaptive headlights on the XSE.  High beam assist is standard across the trim levels.

Perfect Commuter & Family Car

Commuters and parents have much to like when it comes to this SUV.  This hybrid SUV has the power and handling for everyday driving to work or school. Plus, it starts at an affordable price.

The cabin has ample space for the small SUV class. This two-row vehicle is a good fit for a young adult going off to college or a small family with a car seat. The SUV earned a rare Good-Plus rating for LATCH attachments for car seats.

Like all new Toyotas, the Cross Hybrid provides great tools for commuting. These include Lane Tracing, Lane Centering, and Adaptive Cruise Control. The Toyota hybrid SUV can stay safe and centered when driving on the freeway, as well as detecting the speed of vehicles in front of you while in cruise control.  The Corolla Cross Hybrid SE has a blind spot monitor and rear cross traffic alert, perfect for teenagers learning how to drive.

With an affordable MSRP, top notch safety features, and Toyota reliability, this car is perfect for those wanting a family car, a commuter car, or just a green machine.  Schedule a test drive at Earnhardt Toyota or use our online chat to ask your questions now!

2023 Ford Explorer vs 2023 Ford Expedition

From the daily work that the Explorer is known for, to the utility duty that the Expedition is capable of, Ford makes a SUV for every family and every need. To understand the most unique and recent differences between the 2023 Explorer and Expedition, continue reading below.

What Are The Explorer and Expedition?

Although each vehicle proudly wears the Ford badge and has the option for three rows of seats, there are still many differences between these two large SUVs.

For those unfamiliar with these models, the Expedition is a noticeably larger and longer vehicle. It comes with 5 trim options: XL STX, XLT, Timberline, King Ranch, and Platinum. A great perk of the Ford Expedition is that it comes with a MAX option for the higher trim levels, which is even longer than the traditional Expedition.

The Ford Explorer is smaller than the Expedition but still can seat 7 passengers. It is also the more customizable SUV with 8 trim options: Base, XLT, ST-Line, Timberline, Limited, ST, King Ranch, and Platinum. Even the base model has a plethora of standard features, helping customers on a budget stay within a price they feel good about. The higher trim levels each have their own style, from luxury, to sporty, to country, and more.

For customers that are serious about buying their next 3-row Ford and want to know the technical differences between each model, check out our in-depth comparison below.

5 Differences Between The Ford Explorer to the Ford Expedition

1. Different Sizes

As noted before, the Explorer is the smaller and more customizable cousin of the hearty Expedition. Even though the Explorer is smaller, it still has plenty of headroom and legroom for one comfortable ride.

For large families that need extra space for carpooling, luggage, and utility work, check out the Expedition. It has at least 2 more inches of head and legroom compared to the Explorer. As far as passenger volume goes, the Explorer has 152.7 cubic feet of people room, and the Expedition and Expedition MAX have about 172 cubic feet of space.

Some customers don’t necessarily need to worry about passenger space but have a more significant need for cargo storage. Here, Ford does not disappoint. The Explorer has 18.2 inches of storage space behind the third row and the Expedition has 19.3 inches.

The Expedition MAX has an impressive 34.3 cubic feet of storage behind the third row, nearly double that of the Explorer!

2. Different Performance Options

All of Ford’s large SUV models have RWD as standard but have the option for AWD. Plus, the 2023 Explorer has a hybrid option available in higher trim levels. This makes the Explorer the perfect transition vehicle if you are wanting to try out a hybrid.

However, the Expedition is the more powerful vehicle. In higher trim levels, the Expedition hosts 400 horses behind the wheel. This is a twin-turbo vehicle that can have up to 510 lb-ft of torque. Plus, if the correct packages or trim level is chosen, the 2023 Expedition can pull up to 9,000 pounds! If fuel economy is less of a concern for you, and you need cargo and passenger space, check out the Expedition or Expedition MAX.

3. Different Trim Levels

There are so many Expedition and Explorer options to choose from! If you want a luxury vehicle, check out the King Ranch, Timberline, or Platinum trims available for Expedition and Explorer vehicles. If you’re all in for Ford’s reliability but are on a bit of a budget, the Explorer has fantastic standard features for its base model.

The base 2023 Explorer has 8 cloth seats, rear parking sensors, a power liftgate, an 8-inch touchscreen, and Terrain Management System. This feature can switch your vehicle from 2WD to Intelligent 4WD for different terrains. There are also seven drive modes which include Normal, Trail, Deep Snow/Sand, Slippery, Sport, Tow, and Eco Mode which help with fuel economy. This model has an MSRP of nearly $37,000.

The Expedition XL STX is the base model and is a bit more pricey than the Explorer thanks to its extra cargo compatibility, 12-inch horizontal touchscreen, and interior gadgets. The base model has 5 passenger seating, perfect for a smaller family ready for adventure. The outside is just as gorgeous as the inside, leaving many buyers feeling no need to elevate to a higher trim.

Like in tailored Ford fashion, the Expedition and Explorer have 14 trim options combined. The King Ranch is one luxury trim available for both vehicle models. It sports a brown leather interior with Western-style details and authentic wood accents. For customers that are off-road enthusiasts, the Timberline trim is also available for both vehicles. The vehicle is equipped with an underbody skid plate to protect the SUV and is available in AWD only. For those looking for true luxury, a Platinum trim is available for the Explorer and Expedition.

4. Different Ways To Organize Interior Room

Both of these vehicles are excellent family rides. The Expedition comes with a cargo storage net to keep your belongings organized, while the Explorer makes great use of its over 150 cubic feet of passenger storage.

Ford has its complementary LATCH attachments for both of these large SUVs. LATCH attachments, which stand for Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children, allow easy access for car seat installment, making each model great for carpooling or family road trips.

Speaking of family road trips, both the Explorer and Expedition have plenty of Driver Aids as standard. This includes AdvanceTrac Roll Stability Control, SOS Post-Crash Alert System, and a Front Passenger Knee Airbag. For your convenience, both vehicles have Belt-Minder which chimes when safety belts are unlocked.

5. Different Towing Options

Family matters, but so does having sufficient power for the activities you love. Ford has combined the two with its impressive towing aids, letting your Expedition or Explorer tow 4-wheel toys, boats, and more.
